Slack is introducing Slackforce Surfaces, a new feature that allows users to build interactive reports, polls, dashboards, presentations, microsites, and other tools directly inside chat conversations. Users can describe what they need to Slackbot, which uses AI to gather information from relevant conversations and connected apps like Google Drive or Salesforce to create the requested content.
Once created, Surfaces can be shared with colleagues and pinned to channels where others can view, interact with, and leave comments on them. In one example, a user requested an arcade-themed visualization of AI token usage, and Slackbot generated an interactive dashboard showing token usage across divisions like sales, design, and engineering.
This update follows Slack's recent overhaul of Slackbot to function more like an AI assistant, adding the ability to summarize information, sort through messages, and schedule meetings. The company also added collaborative vibe coding channels last month. Slackforce Surfaces will be available to all customers with Slackbot enabled starting in October, though it will only access data that users have given permission to use.
