Amazon has added a new AI-powered feature to Alexa for Shopping that can determine whether an email, text message, or phone call actually originated from the company. The assistant compares messages users receive "against a record of every message Amazon has sent" while also analyzing the content, formatting, and sender information.
The feature only confirms a message as legitimate if it's "completely certain" of the match. An example shared by Amazon shows a customer asking about a one-time password text message, with Alexa responding that it was a genuine message from Amazon. If the assistant determines a message is not from Amazon, it instructs users to check their orders in the app and contact Amazon support directly.
Amazon previously launched a similar verification option earlier this year that allows customers to forward suspicious messages to "verify@amazon.com" for authenticity checking. This new voice-based feature expands on that capability by enabling users to ask Alexa directly about potentially fraudulent communications.
