Google is rolling out a new "Media watermark" toggle setting in Gemini and its AI video generator Flow, allowing users to remove the visible "sparkle" watermark from the bottom-right corner of AI-generated content.
When the visible watermark is disabled, content will still contain invisible SynthID watermarks and C2PA metadata, which can be verified by asking Gemini or Search if something was AI-generated, according to Josh Woodward, vice president of Google Labs, Gemini, and AI Studio.
The change brings Google in line with other AI generators like OpenAI and Meta, which also don't apply visible watermarks. Anthropic similarly announced this week that it's adding invisible watermarks to AI-generated text and images. Google plans to extend the watermark toggle to Search, though it won't be available in countries that require visible watermarks.
