Twitch has introduced a new toggle allowing users to opt out of having their content used to train Amazon's generative AI models. According to Twitch's support page, opting out means "your streams, VODs, clips, stream chats, and pictures and text on your channel" won't be used in "future training" of Amazon AI models designed to "generate or synthesize text, audio, images, or video."
The toggle, labeled "Training for Generative AI," is located in Twitch's settings under the Security and Privacy tab. The feature was found toggled on by default. However, opting out does not prevent Twitch and Amazon from using channel content for other purposes outlined in the Twitch Privacy Notice, including AI-supported features like real-time sponsorship assistance, recommendations, and community safety tools such as AutoMod.
Notably, if a user participates in chat on another person's stream, that streamer's opt-out preferences determine whether the chat can be used for AI training. Other AI-supported features like captions and safety tools will continue to function normally even if a user opts out of generative AI training.
