Meta announced Muse Image, a new AI image generator built by its dedicated AI unit known as Meta Superintelligence Labs. One feature promoted allowed users to generate images by @-mentioning public Instagram accounts they wanted to reference, without alerting account owners that their photos were being used.

The feature drew immediate backlash, with TechCrunch publishing a guide explaining how users could disable it. Meta reversed course and removed the feature via a blog post, stating: "Our intent was to provide a useful creative tool and to give people control over whether their public content could be referenced in this way. We've heard the feedback that this feature missed the mark, so it's no longer available."

The decision to remove the feature came amid scrutiny from users and talent agencies, including CAA.
