Fenix Flexin, best known as a member of Shoreline Mafia, has achieved solo success with "Rubberz," which has climbed to number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, questions have immediately emerged about whether the song was generated by AI, which Fenix has denied while doing little to dispel the speculation.
The track represents a dramatic shift from Fenix's typical trap-influenced West Coast rap, instead embracing '80s UK synth pop influences with vocal melodies inspired by Morrissey and even a fake British accent. Audio analysis reveals common AI music artifacts: brittle hi-hats, low-bitrate-sounding chorus vocals, and abruptly cut-off reverb tails. Songwriter Charlie Harding noted ghostly backing vocals and unnatural digital artifacting reminiscent of a 64kbps MP3.
AI detection tools gave the track only a 20-30 percent probability of being AI or AI-assisted, but supporting materials told a different story. The single's cover art and a celebratory post were flagged as AI-generated with over 97 percent certainty by multiple image detectors. Lyrics analysis by Gemini and Claude also identified multiple signs of AI-written content.
