On TechCrunch's Equity podcast, reporters discussed whether this lawsuit could impact OpenAI's plans to enter the hardware business. OpenAI has been speculated to be developing a mobile smart speaker in partnership with former Apple design chief Jony Ive, though the company has been vague about its hardware ambitions.
Podcast panelists suggested the lawsuit could cause delays even if Apple doesn't receive injunctive relief. "Even setting aside whether or not the court grants any kind of injunctive relief... it just naturally can lead to that sort of situation where it's going to cause some delays," said Sean O'Kane. One reporter predicted OpenAI would likely fight the lawsuit rather than settle quickly, citing the company's recent courtroom victory against Elon Musk.
