Apple's new CEO John Ternus, who took over from Tim Cook (now executive chairman), outlined the company's AI strategy at a Cupertino event, arguing that the iPhone is already the ideal AI device rather than requiring new hardware. Ternus described the concept of an "intelligent personal hub" as a device with broad understanding of personal context, always available, with a powerful on-device processor, cloud connectivity, large display, quality cameras and microphones, long battery life, and seamless device integration.
Ternus stated, "In other words, you would arrive at something remarkably familiar, because there's no product in the world better designed to be your intelligent personal hub than iPhone." He emphasized that the device should be easy to use without a learning curve and work seamlessly across devices, apps, and services.
On data privacy, Ternus made a pointed distinction from competitors, saying "others see [users' personal] data as something to collect and store." He concluded, "Honestly, trust only goes so far when your data is no longer yours to control; that's why Apple Intelligence runs on device whenever it can," positioning privacy as a key differentiator for Apple's AI platform.
